When my niece & I went to see Annie last year, there were a lot of children there. It's a sweet play, with awesome songs!

The girl singing as Annie -Marissa O'Donnell- is the girl we saw play Annie last year. She has a wonderful voice! We saw a different cast of orphans [who did great], but judging by the clips I've seen & heard, this cast [which is the original 30th anniversary cast] is just as good! There are sound samples on the link provided above, by the way. It's under the picture. The link says, "Listen To The Samples".

If you -or someone you know- is an Annie fan, then I definitely recommend getting this! :-)

Arts & Crafts= Great Gifts & Projects.

You can also find this entry at my other blog, Creative Stuff. :-)

I think this sounds cute. I think it'd be good for more than just making gifts for your family & friends. Of course, you'll have to read on to see what I'm referring to. :-)

You see, in addition to being an aunt, I work with children [substitute teacher; convention child care, &] one thing I know is that children love arts & crafts. I think this sounds like a great idea for anyone who is a day care provider, teacher, ect. I mean, of course depending on your age group, but I'm sure you knew that, too lol.

It'd be a good project though. Arts & crafts always seems to be a hit with the children. Of course, not all children will like the same thing - I can tell you that right now. That's why at my convention child care, we always have multiple crafts. That way, each child is still participating, but they get to do a craft they want to do. So it's definitely handy to have a package or more than once craft lying around. :-)

And of course, like the product says, it's always good for gifts. My sister & I have made jewelry for people [we love beading], & who hasn't made a homemade card? It's always fun to make a gift for someone.

So having different crafts around is definitely something you may want to look into. :-)

The joy and art of gift giving has faded throughout our busy schedules and demanding lives.

The reason that you give gifts is NOT because it's someone's Birthday, Christmas, Valentine's Day, a Holiday or an Anniversary, but because you are showing that you care and think about them.

You see, you don't have to spend heaps to make your special someone's day a memorable experience. It's been awhile.

Well, I'm in school now for my 90 hours certification in child care. Pretty cool, huh? :)

Anyways, I saw The Spiderwick Chronicles & Alvin & The Chipmunks within the last 3 months. Definitely cute family movies.

The Spiderwick Chronicles is a full out fantasy movie, which is awesome.

Alvin & The Chipmunks is just adorable.

I'm not gonna say which is appropriate for which age, because I think you guys would know what your children should or shouldn't see. But they're definitely good movies - & I totally recommend 'em.

Here you go, if you're interested.

Enjoy! :)

I'm not sure when The Spiderwick Chronicles comes out on DVD.

That's about it! Something I think all musical fans should check out if they have not already.

Annie.

Last March, I took my niece to see the musical Annie; the National Tour. Both of us are huge fans of the movies & the musical itself, & really enjoyed the show.

The show is once again on tour, it has been for quite sometime. Unfortunately, we will not be attending any of the shows this year. But that doesn't mean you can't. It's a nice show for the entire family.

Here is the official site:

http://annieontour.com/

You can buy tickets for shows, & even see photos & videos from the show. From what I've seen on the video clips, it looks great!

And while we're at it, check out these Annie DVDs & soundtracks:

What we have here are the DVDs & soundtracks for this wonderful musical. There is the 1977 original Broadway cast recording, the 1982 movie version, & the 1999 Disney remake. Yes, I own all of these lol. I'm a little partial to the Disney version, but I love them all. I heard on an awesome Annie site / forum that there will be a 30th anniversary cast recording soundtrack. I'm not entirely sure of when it's coming out, but I have plans of buying it. By the way, the awesome Annie site I'd like to mention is called Annie Orphans. No, it's not mine lol. But it's a great site for any & all fans of the musical!

I love all of the songs, buy my favorites include Maybe, The Hard-Knock Life, Tomorrow, & You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile [orphan version]. My favorite version on the actual on-stage musical is the orphan version of You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile. As for the movies, my favorite part varies.

So there's a great idea for any Annie or musical fans. Not just checking out the movies & soundtracks, but go see the show! Take the whole family & enjoy yourselves. The ticket prices vary, but check out Annie. It's a wondeful family musical, & you won't be disappointed!

Have a wonderful week!

Christmas Party Goody Bags.

Ah! It's officially the Christmas Season. :)

I believe my family is having another Christmas party, similar to the Halloween one. I've seen quite a few products in Wal*Mart that would make great gifts for goody bags. I thought I'd share them with you all, incase anyone is deciding to throw the kids a Christmas party!

Each of these were in packs [8, 12, ect.]. How many you buy all depends on how many kids are coming & how much you'd like to give them. Of course you want to give everyone the same amount!

- Pencils.
- Erasers.
- Stickers.

I added these ideas in myself.

- Candy Canes.
- Peppermints, depending on the age.
- Chocolate, maybe like those big chocolate Santa lollipops.
- The candy sets you can find at any grocery stores. For example, a toy with candy inside.
- Cards. You could buy a box of assorted cards. Maybe there are even mini-cards (similar to what kids would hand out for Valentine's Day). You can also make your own.

There are always those big stocking with candy in them, I've seen them around, Wal*Mart included.

Of course, all candy would depend on the child & age.

For the goody bags themselves, you could always buy a pack. There are also those decorative ziplock bags, those could definitely work wonders. Or even a pack (or a few) of mini-gift bags.

You could always make them. For instance, get a paper bag & decorate it. You could use:

- Wrapping paper.
- Ribbons & bows.
- Gift tags.

Anything like that. Regardless, the kids will love them! You could even let them make their own goody bags, then you can fill them before they leave. Maybe have the bags already in a ziplock to just put into the goody bags that the children make. This would also make a great arts & craft idea. Of course, I'll eventually be giving ideas for Christmas arts & crafts!

Until then, enjoy the holiday season!

Shop 'Til You Drop!

Christmas is coming up & Black Friday is around the corner. I've given a few product ideas so far, but there are others to be mentioned. Like sales & gift cards. I know I'm definitely getting a few gift cards from various places this year. I definitely want to hit K-B Toys for some of my Christmas shopping.

You know, I know a lot of people who like iTunes & the Apple store in general. My Dad went in there & seemed pleased by what he saw. I have friends who go in there all the time. Most of them use iPods & love them. I bet you know someone who uses their iPod constantly as well, right? The perfect gift for music lovers in your life – iTunes gift certificates

Now that works! You won't have to worry about what kind of music they like. Just give them a gift certificate & let them do the picking!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up stopping by FYE as I Christmas shop. They sell more than just CDs & DVDs. There's also shirts, hats, posters, ect. I once got a John Cena poster from there, hehe. fye.com: Movies.Music.Games & More

And who doesn't shop at Wal*Mart?

Of course there are more places than that. Here are a few other stores you should consider checking out.

Some of these might not have a lot of products for children, but they can work for anyone else you have to shop for.

- Toys R Us.
- Target.
- 5 Below.
- Claire's (or Icing by Claire's, which you can find on the Claire's site).
- Bath & Body Works.
- Best Buy.
- The Dollar Tree.
- Family Dollar.
- Hot Topic.
- Spencer Gifts.
- Sears.
- Walden Books.
- Rite-Aid.
- K-Mart.
- Walgreens.

And there are so many more. Whether it's a mall or a store up the street, Christmas shopping can be easy! I've seen toys at grocery stores! Just always look around. My advice would also be not to wait until the last minute to shop, but sometimes you can't help it. Atleast you know where to look. By the way, don't ever be afraid to shop at these stores online. My Dad just ordered some presents from Best Buy, & I may end up getting someone something off of WWE Shopzone [official World Wrestling Entertainment merchandise). If you Google these stores, you'll more than likely find official sites for them.

Oh, we're thinking of having a Christmas party! I'll have to definitely start sharing ideas for those!

I'll try to get more ideas for shopping, parties, & such to you at some point before Christmas. Enjoy the holidays & take it easy!

Gift Ideas!

So Black Friday is approaching. The day some of us wake up early to get our Christmas shopping done. Maybe not all of it, but atleast if we hit the sales, we'll get some of it done. I hope to be at the mall at some point that day, but we'll see what happens. Of course, it's time for more gift ideas! Some of you may have already started shopping, but it never hurts to have ideas. If your child (or loved one) is a fan of World Wrestling Entertainment (like myself), here are a few ideas you may want check out:

(Shawn Michaels happens to be my favorite, by the way.)

(I'm actually getting this for Christmas, haha.)

(Rey Mysterio is pretty awesome.)

You may also want to do a Best Buy search for these. They have fan packages, with t-shirts & other merchandise. It costs a little more, but I think it's totally worth it for anyone who is a huge fan.

Of course, we still have toys.

I want to share with you some of what I have gotten or have already gotten.

I got this High School Musical folding stool for my 7 year old niece. I wanted one with the cast on it, since I figured she'd like that better. It folds up & is a reasonable price. Of course, I'm not wrapping this, lol. I'm just going to get one of those big Santa sacks for it. I've wrapped big gifts before, but since I got this AT the store, it didn't come in a box. So I think it would be easier to just stick it in a nice bag, lol.

I can't seem to find any examples of what I want to get my nieces. But I wanted to get them these pretty Disney Ariel (for my 3 year old niece) & Belle (for my 6 year old niece) dolls. I can find them in the stores easily though. So far I've seen them in K-B Toys, Target, Family Dollar, & even Shoppers (which you may want to hit to get your Thanksgiving shopping done, by the way, if you haven't done so already). They're about $10 each, & their dresses [or fins] are kind of sparkly. I think they look really nice, & I know the girls will love them! I actually saw this in Toys R Us, but it's good to know that Wal*Mart it. My 14 year old nephew is getting into guitar playing, & I thought this would be good. I definitely wanted to get him either a strap or picks. I have to double check this & see if it would be right for him - but atleast I have my gift ideas.

DON'T TELL THE KIDS WHAT THEY MAY GET FOR CHRISTMAS! ;-)

Enjoy your Christmas shopping & I'll talk to you soon!

It's that time of the year again.

I think you know what I'm talking about. That's right, Christmas shopping. Something I actually love doing. I love buying for other people, wrapping them, & just getting ready for Christmas.

Here at Ideas For Kids, I'm not just going to give ideas for crafts & parties [which, by the way, I hope the family has a Christmas party] - but I'm also going to give gift ideas as well.

Let's face it, kids love presents. Some kids are picky, while others are happy with whatever they get. I normally just ask the kids in my family what they're into, rather than asking for specific things they want. That way, if I don't have to run around town looking for one specific gift. It's also easier when you're low on cash or on a budget.

Things have sort of changed with the kids in my family. My 14 year old nephew wants a guitar & things to come with it. My 9 year old nephew wants a journal & my 7 year old niece wants books & clothes. And that's only 3 of the 7 kids! Oh yes, there is a lot of Christmas shopping to be done this year!

The stores you hit depend on the age. I know one place I spend a lot of time in, is K-B Toys. There's one in just about every mall I go to, so it's easier to get to. It's really been a help over the last few years of Christmas shopping. I know people who have worked there, they can tell you how busy it gets lol.

With their great sales, they also come in handy for birthdays as well. I have a niece & a nephew who BOTH have birthdays in April, & I remember getting their gifts all in one trip to K-B's.

Here's a sale coming up that I might want to check out myself. I should probably let my family know as well - since there are 7 kids to shop for. I know, it's only the beginning of November. But it's always best to start Christmas shopping a little early. Pretty soon the stores will be crowded, the lines will be long, & well - you know how Christmas season goes. The kids really enjoyed themselves. We had pizza, candy, soda, games, music, all of it. Halloween went great as well, & the kids did well with Trick-or-Treating. We were out for less than an hour & their bags were full.

Now it's time to get ready for Thanksgiving & my favorite season - Christmas! So of course I'll enjoy giving ideas for those. Party ideas, gift ideas - I think I'm getting ahead of myself. Thanksgiving comes before Christmas, now doesn't it? ;-)

I love Thanksgiving. Just being together with the family & stuffing our faces. I love Thanksgiving turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, peas, cranberry sauce don't forget the gravy. Advice to all - don't write about Thanksgiving when you're starving.

Now, everyone has their own ideas; what kind of food they'd like to cook. So it might not always be easy to think up ideas. But I can always try.

Here's an idea that would be great for the family. Let the kids get involved. I know, I know, they'll get in the way when cooking. Let them make something the night before or early that morning before you start cooking [some more, some people start the night before]. Or after dinner & they can make something for dessert.

Take them to the grocery store & see what they might be interested in cooking. It can be anything. As an adult, you can also decide what might be right for them to do, & what might be too much. I'll have to find some yummy recipes to share at some point. Feel free to comment & share your own!

I think it'll be a good idea. It'll give the kids a chance to feel like a grown up, plus it'll show them how much work [or fun] cooking for the family can be! Don't just supervise, cook with them! But don't try to take over unless you KNOW it is a task your child cannot or shouldn't do. This could be a good learning experience for everyone.

I found these books, they might be of help if need be:

Kids Cook 1-2-3

The Kid's Cookbook

I've never read them, but they each have a good reviews. The kids might like looking through those & deciding what they want. There might be more on Barnes & Nobles or Amazon.com.

That's about it for now. All this talk about food doesn't really help, as I'm starving! Enjoy the weekend! I hope everyone had a fun & safe Halloween!

Lets Boogie!

So the Halloween party I mentioned before is this weekend. One thing I forgot to mention, of course, is music! Of course you're going to want to play Halloween music, right?

What I have here, is a list of CDs that might be good for a children's Halloween Party.

There are also actual children's Halloween CDs. These titles stood out to me:

- Kidz Bop Kids: Halloween.
- Halloween Tales: Spooky Pack.
- Drew's Famous Kids Halloween Celebration.
- DJ's Choice: Kids Pop Halloween.
- Kids Mix: Halloween.
- Kids Sing'n Halloween Hits.
- Ultimate Halloween Party.

Of course, you may know some of the songs on these CDs yourself. I know I do. I've seen titles listed such as:

- Monster Mash.
- Thriller.
- The Addams Family.
- Ghostbusters.
- Purple People Eater.
- Witch Doctor.

And many more!

You can find these at reasonable prices. But for the next 3 days, Circuit City is having a sale. I love sales. But who doesn't like getting something for less than they normally would?!

Also, is there anyone reading this that is having a Halloween party? I'd love to hear the plans & how it went. I know I've pretty much picked out the games since I'm in charge of those. We have food ideas & I think my younger sister is in charge of decorations. We have the music of course. :-) It's easier to plan it if everyone helps out & takes a job. October is almost over, so get ready for your Halloween party & have fun! :-)

<img src="http://clickserve.cc-dt.com/link/tplimage?lid=41000000015975907&pubid=21000000000139311" border="0" alt="Web Only Special: Spring into Summer Sale, 3 Days Only! My older sister homeschools her children, & both my younger sister & I have bought this up to her for arts & craft. I think once I explain it more, most of you out there will think "Oooh! That!".

Materials:
1. Leaves; usually fall leaves. But any could possibly do.
2. Construction paper; any color. I wouldn't recommend using extremely dark colors [like black].
3. Crayons or colored pencils. Any colors, just make sure you'll be able to see it on the paper.

Directions:
1. Collect a few leaves. You can usually get these from the back or front yard, park, anywhere there are trees.
Note: Children, be sure to take a parent or gaurdian with you to collect the leaves!
2. Place 1 or more leaves under the construction paper of your choice.
3. Using the crayon or colored pencil of your choice, gently move the it [maybe like scribbling] around the paper to trace the leaves. Be gentle, the leaves could break.

Get creative, use different colors or place the leaves however you want. Do one leave or a whole collage! Even cut them out if you want to, just be sure to have some help with the scissors from a parent or gaurdian.

Remember, since you were collecting leaves from the ground outside - wash your hands when you're done!

Remember this activity now? I do, & obviously so do my sisters. Get started, have a ball, & enjoy the fall! [Haha, like my rhyming?!]

Take care, everyone!

Fall activities for everyone to enjoy!

It's finally starting to feel like fall now! I'm loving it. The heat was just getting annoying. And with the fall comes activities. Those are the ideas I'm going to discuss in this blog. Things to do.

My sister & her hubby took the kids to Webbers Farm, as they do every year. I've never been there, but I've seen the pictures & it looks nice. They had a hay ride, tractors [of course the kids don't really drive them lol], painted pumpkins, & yummy apple cider which they bought home. And of course more.

We may be going to another farm, I'm not sure. I wish I could remember where lol. But like a big kid, I'm excited for it.

So look for farms & such doing fall activities. I hope to we still end up going to one, I think it will be fun.

There's also decorating. We decorate the windows every year & it's such a big thing for the kids [I'm an aunt, by the way, not a parent]. Right now I think we'll be doing Halloween decorations. But eventually the fall ones go in until December. But let the kids pick out window stickers & help decorate.

Baking can also be fun. There are Halloween cookies, Thanksgiving - hey, you don't even need a reason to bake! It gives the kids a chance to help in the kitchen & even learn something to [what with the measuring & such]. Of course, the best job is licking the spoon after it's all done! I still love doing that.

So there are a few ideas to do for the fall. I hope you all have fun this season!

Boo! Halloween is coming!

Halloween is just around the corner! Anyone doing anything spooky or fun? I know my family is going to be throwing the kids [nieces, nephews, & their friends] a Halloween party.

I'm in charge of the game. I'm thinking of doing the following games:

- A Treasure hunt [candy being the treasure], since I'll be dressed as a pirate this year.
- Some kind of "Pin The Tail On The Donkey" [of course it'll be more Halloween themed] game.
- A costume contest. I think I'll make it so everyone wins a prize. The kids are rather young, & I don't want anyone feeling bad.

My younger sister is in charge of decorations. I'm not sure what she'll have in mind. There are many ways to decorate for a Halloween party.

- There are silly string or anything you can find that looks like spider webs.
- Arts & crafts never fail. You can make insects, pumpkins, witches, ect.
- Pumpkin painting. That could always be fun. I've personally never done that before, but I bet it's a hit for the kiddies, or anyone who likes to get creative. :)

I think it'd be fun to let the kids that live with us help out with the decorations. They'd love it & can be pretty creative.

I was surfing around the web & found these.

This could be of help for people who throw kid parties often. Maybe you're a parent, guardian, or relative. Or you just work with kids for a living. It's always good to have ideas. Heck, I'm still trying to come up with game ideas.

Discover How To Host A Great Kid Party!

See, the cool thing about kid parties, is you can take most ideas & turn them into something that fits the theme of your party. For example, instead of "Pin The Tail On The Donkey", I may use "Pin The Witch On The Broom". Most ideas could probably work if you just think of different ways to use them.

Also, this is for anyone interested in painting pumpkins:

Easy Pumpkin Painter

Yep, I'm definitely a beginner, so I'd need it to be easy lol. I can't draw let alone paint. But atleast I can admit it. Now my brother-in-law could probably do this, or my sister's boyfriend. They're both pretty good with drawing. I bet my 8 year old nephew could probably do this as well. He's a very creative kid, & can pretty much do anything he puts his mind to. I think it'd be a hit with all of the kids though. They love to paint.

But then again, you can paint anything you want to on a pumpkin. It doesn't have to be a work of art.

That's about it. Just throwing out some Halloween ideas, based on what my loved ones & I will be doing. I know I am. I'm an aunt of 7 & I work with kids from time to time.

If there's one thing I learned from my child care job, it's good to plan ahead. It keeps things moving, organized, & more fun. Here, I'm going to share ideas & such for various events. Whether it be arts & crafts, parties, or holidays.

One thing that really seems to work are arts & crafts. Kids seem to really love it, & it can be fun for adults as well. Who doesn't like to get creative?! I recently learned how to make paper flowers. It might sound hard, but it's actually really easy.

Materials needed:
1. Pipe Cleaners.
2. Round tissue paper. Or you can take square tissue paper & cut it into a circle.

Places to buy material:
Any stores that sells craft materials could do. A.C. Moore, Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, even the dollar store could possibly have the materials needed!

Directions:
1. Pick 2 or more pieces of tissue paper. You can put a few on there, but it's better to have atleast 2.
2. Fold the very tip of the pipe cleaner in. Don't fold a big part of it, just the tip. This will not only look like the middle of the flower, but it will stop the tissue paper from coming off.
3. Take the tissue paper, & gently poke a hole through the middle of it using the other end of the pipe cleaner.
4. Move the tissue paper up to the top of the pipe cleaner where you folded the pipe cleaner.
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 for the rest of the tissue paper.
6. Once all the tissue paper is on the pipe cleaner & at the top, gently crumple them a little bit. This can make them look more like petals.
7. And wa-la! You should have paper flowers! Make as many as you want!

Remember, do steps 3 through 6 gently, because the tissue paper can rip if you're too rough.

And there you have it, paper flowers for any little one [or big one] to make for decorations, themselves, or the ones they love!
